Ill be rigging for silent running later today and giving the planet a bit of a break as I power down the whole of the B-F network for the weekend.
Due to the final stage of essential maintenance on the electricity supply to the building over the weekend I will need to shut everything down this afternoon.

This weekend all the servers will be switched off to allow an upgrade to the power supply to the building. So you are going to all have to try Real Life Version 1. Thats the one where you peel your arse off that old sweaty computer seat stand up dropping pizza crumbs and crisps (chips if you are American :)) onto the floor then go and find your friends and / or family and see what they have been doing for the last 18 years ……. Well OK that’s what i will be doing. You can tell me what your plans are via Facebook and Twitter if you feel the need to communicate to someone digitally, Our Teamspeak server will be off too!
Come on chin up, you can do this!

As we move closer to the weekend where the servers will be shut down for a couple of weekends (see post below) I thought I would give you all a reminder of other ways you can get in touch with us here at B-F.
Probably one of the best ways is to join our FaceBook group as this is probably one of the more modern methods of sharing views etc. Forums are so late 90’s, which incidentally when Battle-Fields.com was started; late 1997 to be precise! There is also a twitter account that I use for my random musings but it is in the B-F name so I do occasionally post B-F stuff on there and rant at various games companies, as well as soup manufacturers who insist in leaving small pieces of stone in their products; its a long story!
Also if you are having difficulty registering on the forums feel free to email me (email@example.com) or use one of the alternative methods mentioned above. I make no apology for the tight security at our forum as spam and forums seem to go hand in hand and we get literally hundreds of rogue signups without our anti-spam wall in place!
See you all on the other side 🙂

The power supply to the server room will be being upgraded during a couple of weekends in May.
I have yet to have the times and dates confirmed but will post them as soon as I have them. There is another option and it involves putting a bicycle on a rolling road with a generator strapped to it and me spending several hours trying to generate a few thousand Watts of power. Ive done some calculations and for me to achieve this I would need to eat about 178 pork pies and drink 40 pints of best bitter. So basically a normal night out. Trouble is Im not sure I can ride a bike and drink 40 pints so I decided just to turn the servers off whilst the work is being done.
Sorry for any inconvenience, if any pie manufacturers would like to sponsor Battle-Fields.com please contact me though the normal chanels.

Airdoc has created what can only be described as a stunning video of him and his mates from the DBS who fly on our servers. You really must take a look at the video on YouTube.

Well that’s Christmas over and done with and to start the new year the Battle-Fields network decided to take a huge dump. It could have been all the festive food that caused problems or maybe it was the fact that as all the folk in the offices near the servers decided to try and keep warm using fan heaters because the heating had gone off.
Our battery backup tried valiantly to keep things from hitting the dirt but there is only so much you can do with lead and acid and running big servers for in excess of 40 minutes is asking a bit much on our budget.
Apologies if you missed us for the 4 days it was out of service but I was out of the country and couldn’t go and hit the rack with a hammer.
We are a server down right now awaiting parts. You can get updates via the usual channels (mainly the forums).
If you feel you would like to help us keep things running then feel free to donate, you can find links on the main site and on the forums.
Happy new year!

Our good friends at Jet Simulator Limited very kindly offered a 50% discount to all visitors to Battle-Fields.com some time back but as they say all good things must come to an end. So from January 1st the 50% off discount will come to an end.
Likewise the 50% off annual discount that members of the Captains Club are entitled to will also be changing to something less attractive, say like from Taylor Swift to oh I dunno … Shane MacGowan, Although beauty is in the eye of the beholder you can argue with figures and 50% off looks very attractive.
So why not treat yourself or that aviation nut, aficionado, bore, enthusiast (delete as appropriate) to the gift of flight, virtual flight.
Go to http://jetsimulator.co.uk/ and tell them we sent you and you can get your very own Taylor Swift or if she isnt available you can get a voucher for one of the most realistic flight simulators in the UK.

Like an old tired janitor who walks down the corridor of an old smelly building brushing aside the detritus of time gone by I have wiped the old IL2 stats in preparation for those of you who wish to check them to see how good your aim is.
So even if your aim isnt that good (Which might explain the smell) you had better get onto the server now and may hay whilst the sun shines and get points for not making hay but by shooting down the enemy…… or something.
Im old an tired!

Once again I have had my arm round the blocked ‘u’ Bend on the stats server and cleared out the blockage.
So you should see a speed improvement and have a chance to be king of the hill for a while!

I just had an email touch down in my inbox that says there is a Rise OF Flight sale on with up to 66% off.
Im not quite sure why but RoF never really seemed to take off (ahem!) at Battle-Fields, we did run a simulator for a while but I think the fact that making maps for it was a nightmare and most of our pilots were into faster things like Spitfires meant that it never got the attention it deserved.
Personally I found multi crew mayhem at walking speed great fun!
Anyhow if you want to treat yourself this Bank Holiday weekend go check out the RoF store!
