Solomons is back after a thorough refit at the hands if Ice-Fire, more Zeros added plus Ki61 and a flyable B25 for reds.

Yay :)

Still working on the various others under my charge.

Mmmmm that is a problem. Does it really look silly? I'm more worried about targets being eliminated that cannot be accomplished by pilots later.

Giving the RoF a high value should do the trick.

But that also defeats the purpose of having the destroyers to provide AAA support in the first place. Let me have a look first hand (I'm back from vacation and back at home so I can get on and fly) and I'll see what I can do.

RoF does have no effect on the AAA.

Jus played this map for the first time and IMO the flak over the allied landing beachhead is suicidal.

2 missions so far, I've come away with dead/wounded crew and an engine fire - from just 3 passes over the target.

I'd say sleeping the landing craft would go a long way to fixing it.

Just did a Divebomb attack, there must be 12 or more batteries flying. This time I was in the single seater Divebomber and lost my engine to flak ( we'd run out of Betties - which only number 8 - which is overly low IMO ).

Nice map in terms of planeset and target layout.

Just needs more betty's and a LOT less flak.

This is one of the problem you get when designing maps for a DF server, the maps need to work for 10 as well as for 24 players. If you're alone over the targets the flaks is nasty, but if there's three or more planes there it's fairly decent amount of AA.

Fastest way to kill the targets is to drop few big ones to take out the ground targets and then move to fighter-bombers to take out the shipping.

I disagree, especially on this map, all the flak is 'armour' generated and way heavier than ANY other map. Normally you can flatten flak with a couple or 3 well placed bombs or strafing runs. With this map you'll have to individually kill ( with bombs too - no rockets or sufficient cannon ) each and every target 1 at a time. I plastered most of the ground targets but had not lessened the flak one bit. Any other map I would have.

Not just that but the allies managed to flatten their flak no trouble, I'm guessing theirs was land based and map even have been lighter. As a map designer I've been told roughly 2-3 20mm and maybe a 88 or two. This is more like 5-7 20mm.

Which flak are you guys talking about. Please refresh my memory. Is it the Japanese destroyers (they are two very light destroyers, limited AA) thats the problem or the LC's with their .50cal mounts. Just need to turn more of them off...

This was a problem with the original but nobody seemed to mind the .50cals.

It's the allied invasion. There are 2 destroyers, 4-5 smaller motorboats AND 8-10 landing craft. All put up flak and it's like flying into a laser light show.

So its the .50cals that probably should be turned off. Piece of cake.

Any reason the betty's are limited to 8?

Not sure. Thats the way it was originally.

Could Ki-43 II added to the Japanese? They already have Ki-61.

I'll have a look at that and see if it fits historically. Right now the Ki-43-II doesn't seem well liked...but maybe that will change in 4.08.

I like the Ki43II. One is a '42 plane.
