A couple of nights ago I was flying blue on the Tirpitz map and each time I attempted to take off it was as if my aircraft hit an obstruction and was tipped forward.

This occured on the taxiway running parallel to the main runway and I was taking off from the end with the two parked Ju88s. Looking at the track I recorded it appears that there is a seam running across the taxiway close to that end and the two parts do not match. In effect there is a trench across the taxiway. Any chance someone could look at this?

Cheers :)

In-built map glitch, can't be fixed. But as you've started talking about it ;)

Overall not one of my favourite maps this, Red's target the Tirpitz can't really be damaged by any of the Carrier aircraft (as it's very hard to take off with any ordinance.)The Red bomber airfield is the furthest take-off/fly/bomb run you will ever find on any of our maps,(also because most of the time you go there on your own it's take-off/fly/get killed by AAA) No-one attacks the Tirpitz so all of Reds airforces are waiting to nail blues attacks on their carriers, anyone ever had a dogfight over the Tirpitz??...rarely.
In it's defence (so as this isn't all negative  ) this is a very good mid/late war planeset with corsairs/hellcats/seafires against FW190A5/6's the 109G2 and G6/G6late. In this regard it's unique.
i'd like to see another fleet target for blues and shift the carriers into the 'background' and attempt to move the action eastwards towards the Tirpitz.

I quite enjoy the long flight in the PE-8 or mossie. I've never flown that map with less than 2 people working together attacking the Tirpitz. It's always been good.

Thanks for the info Firelo, I guess in future I will just have to jump over the ditch. :D

I don't dislike this map but as you say most of the action is over the red fleet. I've attacked the Tirpitz using the Hellcat and bombs for all the good it did. I was suprised last last night when I shot down what I thought was a Hellcat attacking the Tirpitz and it turned out to be an Avenger, or should that be Tarpon in RN service?

The map makes a change from purely land based maps and it doesn't seem to empty the server like some Pacific maps probably because players can use 190s, 109s and Seafires. As it is supposed to represent a carrier raid on Tirpitz it would be difficult to put the carriers into the 'background' and still remain true to that theme but then again, in practice, that's not how the map plays out. An alternative would be to bring Tirpitz and some destroyers out and have them attacking a convoy with the carriers as distant escort. That way both blue and red targets would be close together.

Just moving the carriers a square or two to southeast would help to make it a different scenario, the decrease in distance between carriers and the land base would encourage people to fly the bombers, blue bombers would have more time to climb and hopefully more imaginative approach routes than now.

And with the carriers more east we could have a second blue base even more east (providing there's a airbase we can use on the map) to leave the tirpitz between the two.

^^^This is a very good idea^^^

Planning to redesign the whole thing when we get the new Norway map. Keep sending in your suggestions!

At saturday night I played the map and flew a Corsair to shoot down the attacking formations of three HE 111's. They managed to sink half of our ships which turned out to be an advantage for us because then the Avenger could spawn in the air and could take the full loadout. I think three bombruns on the Tirpitz of ForkTailedDevil and his wingman later the red side won after a bit more than half an hour of playing.

Please dont change the planeset, its very intresting and fun to play from both sides.

I really love the fights that occur, but I must admit I have never tried to take out the Tirpitz before so I cant comment on that.

FOr me the beauty of the map is the planeset and the fights that occur between the FW190A6/Bf109G2/Me110 and Seafire L, Corsair/Hellcat etc.

This is a 'different' planeset that definitely works very well, rather than the usual ones we all know create good fights (Me109G2 vs La5, Fw190A6/A8 vs Spit IX, Fw190D9 vs Spit, Hellcat vs Zero, Ki84 vs Spit, Spit V vs Early Zero etc etc).

This is my point really we could have a Tirpitz with this planeset where because the Blues targets are not Red's take-off carriers but a collection of other capital ships in the same location, Blues success in sinking ships does not damn their ultimate success by providing airstarts for Reds.

I'd say we wait for the Norway map and see what Icefire can make out of it rather then editing this one.

I really dont have any confidence we are getting a Norway map or any Med/desert maps anytime soon, very cynical I know.

4.08 is supposed to arrive after Christmas...the map has already been submitted and approved. Ian Boys team is just that good :)

Tirpitz has some problems but I dont think its strictly broken. If you guys want me to, I can make some changes to get it through till I can rebuild it.

Maybe you could place the new target convoy somewhere between the red's island and the Tirpitz, but keep the red carriers where they are now. That should relocate the combat action and actually lead blues to protecting the Tirpitz and while around give cover for the bombers.
