well I'm still working on it and have to test a lot of things, before release.
Still have to figure out the FBD .ini stuff.

Quick Question for all those mapmakers out there. what you use for your AA settings?
would you find 30.0 acceptable for a rate of fire?
i found 0.5 to fast thought of 20.0 to 30.0 (has not been tested yet)
What would you suggest for
# low caliber AA ceiling about 200-500?
# hvy caliber AA ceiling about 2000-2500?
# submarines and ships?

all constructive feedback is appreciated ;)

Ship AAA ROF 12.0 to 20.0 for a destroyer (always Rookie settings.) It's rare that I ever let capital ships do anything but sleep but I have used ROF 40-60 for battleships.
BTW on no account let your carriers (those that are active homebases or landing carriers ) ever use their AAA. It causes enormous lag and is quite capable of shooting through friendly landing planes to kill enemy ones. Think about using destroyer sized guard ships instead. Patrol boats/MTBs/Fishing Boats/Landing Crafts and the other small stuff can have higher ROFs (7.0, 8.0.etc) but be careful if you have a lot active near to each other. Maybe 3 active AAA landing crafts for 20 landing crafts total. Another problem is setting the sleep time high enough to last a whole mission, the maximum FMB amount seems 5400 secs (about an hour) I almost always searched this out when looking in notepad using find/replace and swapped it for 9600 secs (better safe than sorry. Lastly if you cut n paste this line into your mission file at the end of editing it will stop stupid things happenning like Respawning AAA or even Capital Ships, the line is....
[RespawnTime]
Bigship 8000
Ship 8000
Aeroanchored 8000
Artillery 8000
Searchlight 8000
with the respawn time again in seconds. Sorry to go on but if I was going to explain some of it I might as well explain everything. ;)

thx firelok I will certainly change my AA and some of the stuff following your recommendations. I haven't looked at the ini file and all those commands. seems daunting. anyway off to zZZzzz land now. thx for your input greatly appreciated.

I'd recommend setting the light aaa ceiling to 1000 m and the heavy aaa ceiling unlimited or to at least 5000 m.

And hey, 0.5 rof means that objects will shoot twice as fast as in reality ;)

1.0 is the original rof, IL-2 singleplayer uses 5.0 by default.

Greetings Sonko

those are .mis file stuff happy. If it's UKd3 you won't need the .ini file server commander stuff. there are a lot of things that are easier done by just editing the .mis file directly IMO. Good luck with this happy.

after testing a lot of changes will be made to accomodate more targets.
and optimise flighttimes. plane set proved to be a good one for many dogfights and thrilling times. but i think the dive bomber pilots will be the decisive factor in winning this map. the japanese jungle patrols i have found to be a big succes and from response with testing a great surprise. flying low 150 meter then all of a sudden you see tracers running to you and yes you get hit, I got a hurt pilot but was still flying. was a good surprise, that would make pilots wary flying so low over patches of jungle. you never know what is moving under the green canopy.

ah well back to the drawing bord I suspect.

ok a lot of things have been altered and after many hours
I decided to do a test run to see how things where running with danger to my own life I tested the japanese AA.

still got lot of work to do like displacing an entire fleet and figuring out why my own ships fire at my own troops? and yes they all where designated RED sofar I can only deduct that the fleet is to close and that they shoot over land towards the enemy yet that is way off. and on a hill.

And then I had two of my own destroyers shoot at me? I wonder what caused that. maybe the old us markings with the red in the star? or my chatting on the radio?

updates include:

US amphibious force landing on the shore with smokescreen and close support destroyer.

Japanese firebase with garison of tanks.

Japanese runway under construction which is been supplied by air and can be used as a emergency runway for any japanese to land on. mind you the paved runway has been covered by sand to escape detection. (still some construction going on so be carefull not to land to fast)

Japanese small firebase.

added smoke to some ships simulating ships on the move and or working.

alterations to AA settings to enable exciting missions with a danger of AA yet no ubergunnery. Bases are more heavily defended.

will see how far I get this weekend with my work, starting a course on monday and expect to be swamped with work. So will see.. it is going to be ready one day, for real testing by you all.

Not all targets will be revealed in the briefing, this to enable reckon flights and it will be more demanding for the sbd's to search out for targets on the islands.

ok I'm faced with red shooting red or a red ship shooting at a own plane?
i've checked that they are all reds so I will check out ranges for the ships yet I wonder if you have come accross this kind of thing before?

and if you have any hints and tips it will be much appreciated, so did I found out that if you want to put chimney smoke on a carrier it is best to find a hill and select smoke then it will be at that height same as where it spawned.
if no one told me that I still be looking around as to how to.

is there a limit to the amount of object one can put on a map not to compromise gameplay?

well got a few hours and I think I've got this bug that once I started on something which requires my input and expression I'm a little kid in a toyshop, can't seem to stop smiling and have to play around and finish it.

now firstly see what I can find some online map making things in the hope to find something I haven't thought of.

thanks for your time in replying and or giving me a helping hand.

^^This is exactly why I enjoy mapping so much^^
Those who haven't tried it have no idea, it looks such a dull occupation from the outside but is filled with many and varied pleasures. Obsessing about where to put the pilot's toilet on the airfield or sneaking in those little touches that no one else will ever notice, It's mappers disease happy :) We just need to infect everyone else now :D

As for your red firing at red problems it's going to be hard giving you advice about that without seeing the map itself in FMB. Is it possible that the ships are firing at ground units in the jungle way off in the distance. It seems that ships have line of sight through any obstacle within their range and will actively fire salvos a hell of a long way.

Obsessing about where to put the pilot's toilet on the airfield or sneaking in those little touches that no one else will ever notice, It's mappers diseaseAgreed!

I have no Idea why your ships are shooting at you happy.

But I think it is realistic when ships shoot at something out of their sight range. In real life they had artillery spotters in the air, nowadays they have sattelites in space. Ships really had to avoid getting into direct sight of the enemy because getting shot up at sea, well that's not funny you know...

Well good news, I figured out why the ships where shooting me I think.
it's the circle on the airbase. The rufe's airbase circle was at one time covering over the invasion force and with testing I got a friendly kill when dropping bombs on the invasion force. This would also explain why the us destroyers where shooting at me when i flew an SBD photo reckon.

At the moment the map is nearing it's completion and all that is left to do is finish the brief.

I have tested it a couple of times to see how things behaved and if they look realistic and all other things and also got some help from charliechap.
He has beaten me to the punch with the coding and such by putting something for it together saturday. I still will have to look at it since I want to know this aspect too and without it, it won't work.

He has set the following victory conditions

US has 98 ships total.

IJN has to sink 40 of them.

IJN has 126 trucks, 39 tanks, 17 AAA, 20 ships, 19 Artillery on quick count.

US has to destroy 60 Trucks, 20 Tanks, 10 AA 10 SHips, 10 Artillery.

As you can see there are a lot of targets that need to be taken out for each team to claim a victory.

it's 1941 and the invasion of Guadalcanal is about to begin.
As an american pilot you will find yourself stationed on a carrier where you can sign up for dauntlesses, wildcat or marine brewsters.
flying this against zero's will mean that you will have to work together if you want to have any chance of coming back alive from a mission.

I've chosen specific for this plane set for it's historical accuracy and because i think this will put pilots to the test since teamwork is the key against the zero. As a bomber pilot you can launch from the East or the West thus giving range to more tactical choices as to what your point of entry will be into indian country. You will notice that some approaches might be harder then others so you will have to find a way around that in order to succeed. In short you have orders to strafe and bomb anything japanese, be it coastal shipping, island outposts, jungle patrols or anything resembling japanese activity.

some objectives are pretty obvious yet others might be a bit more elusive and i decided to let you as a pilot find that out. that either means recon flights or just flying low enough to spot things. Now the japanese are great when it comes to concealment so be wary. Also they will have jungle patrols and won't shoot unless they have a good chance of hitting you and not just giving away their position. besides that the only way of resupply is out of rabaul so they don't want to waist to much ammo.

the fighterpilot is tasked with protection of the landing force as well as the protection of a re-supply convoy that is carrying ammo and fuel. Also they will have to coordinate with the SBD's and provide escort for the bomber guys to make sure all do make it home safely. you are allowed to attack target of opportunity yet remember that is only after you finish the other tasks and then I still would like to caution you for doing so since we do need any available fighter to come back, and it's pilot, ready to go on the next mission.

The japanese will have the option of flying the zero and the rufe.
the rufe will be the most challenging since it will be closer to the action and will have to scramble in order to escape destruction. the zero's however are tasked with protecting the immense area and intercept and destroy the attack force. They are also tasked with protection of their own bombers as they will have the task of turning the tide and damage the taskforce in such a way that it has stopped to be an effective fighting force.
this means destroying the supply convoy that is heading to the west carrier group. and the invasion force itself. Also they can help create wider avenues for the japenese planes by attacking guard vessels to the carrier fleet and or invasion force.

one can also pilot a betty bomber that i put in to re create the low level attack by 20 betty's escorted by zero's from rabaul. you will get an airstart with this simulating a long flight from rabaul and you can land on the main airstrip to the S/W main japanese airbase. These flights pose a real threat to the USN and unless you don't encounter a team flying together you have a good chance of succes that is if the AA doesn't get you. :D
ps there is an airfield under construction and it can be used although it is covered with sand to escape detection it's not that hard to spot if you know what you are looking for.

Well I better fix that briefing and see if I can mail it.

All positive constructive feedback will be appriciated.
I realise I can't please everyone so I want you to keep in mind that this is map has been created with teamwork and goal orientated "bombing" gameplay in mind.

It's my first creation and now I'm asking you for your thoughts on it and what you like or don't like about it. (for those who scream bloody murder for not having uber planes, tough luck :p )

special thanks to charliechap for making the script. I hope you enjoy it.

now I better get back to making that briefing and see if I can post it.
remember it's a beta version and it can only get better but I need your feedback as pilots of what works and what not.

thx you all and I hope you enjoy my map on UKD3

That's a huge amount of targets especially ships. The usual amount are closer to 10 ships. AFAIK ukded3 will be smaller than the two other ukded servers.

it seems to run better and from what I gathered it has more memory.
guess we will have to see. tried it once online and it seems to work very good.

I like the massive battle look. I meant the amount of players will be smaller and with that many targets it's going to take a long time of win the map.

Guess we just have to wait and see, thing is an SBD flight can do lots of damage and the japanese have torpedo carrying betty's and zero who can carry bombs and don't forget the aichi vall. Although have to say it's a valid point you raise algore and thx for that one. I never thought of it yet with looking at the map I think it can be done and it seems not impossible to do yet time will tell. just posted the map to scraps so will see how this beta version does. besides that it's my first so i do expect errors and other stuff to creep up especially when this is all new to me. yet i would love to hear and learn about all the feedback.

At least it wont be over in 10 minutes like some of the older maps ;)

I'll get it onto the server soon m8 :)

*EDIT*

Before it goes up on the server, I need some details for FBD ....

How many planes/pilots on each side?

How many targets of each type need to be destroyed?

What maps are to be loaded after the mission ends?

US has to destroy 60 Trucks, 20 Tanks, 10 AA 10 SHips, 10 Artillery.

(Rough values...that can be tweaked with benefit of experiance)

what map to be next well I can't make them that fast, blimey this took me some time you know :p I guess it wouldn't help if i would say a good one when it comes to the next map.

scripting was done by charliechap and haven't gone into that. just taking a break, even thing I have a case of flying fatique.

how many pilots on each side, well I let you decide since you seem to know all there is about UKD3 I let you run it as you see fit. the rufes circle might be expanded yet not so that it covers the invasion fleet that will make them blue without you noticing and that will create some funny things, like getting shot by own team or vice versa.

scraps will have to have a look at it, maybe over the weekend.
will try to work out a few idea's yet my mind is being put to mush trying to learn to work with this new software called PDS2000 at this company course I'm following.

I will also have a thougth of a one page target info thing. For there are some targets which remained hidden and not because I stuck them in a forest :D

will try to find a way to make a short update on the situation in the brief.

And I will change one japanese destroyer with it's AA settings as it turned out it was well kind of unemployed in its behaviour.

Thanks btw for running a test and thanks for the encouragement i received from the pilots.
