View Full Version : Bomber Maps

With the current interest in formation bomb flying maybe we need a series of bomber orientated, admin called maps.

I was particularly thinking something like :-

Caen - B25 replicating the heavy bombing of the city in 1944.
Leningrad - He111
Channel Shipping - Ju88
Unknown - Pe2
Finland - TB3
El Alamein - A20C

All be the specified bombers with 2-3 fighter types for escort against (non 108 gunpodded ) opposition.

These I think would work in all UKD servers as admin called options.

So, longer flight-times, a greater emphasis on lvl bombing, ground attack/tactical air support.
Sounds like a job for UKd3.
Ukd1 and Ukd2 are more generalist in nature TBO and any scenario must try and reflect this, we do have some maps where the emphasis is more on the fighter engagement and others which are slanted towards the bombers(often dictated by the historical engagement being modelled.) our best maps have everything all happening at once. e.g. Petsamo- REDs A20s/Pe2s attack shipping,BLUEs Ju88s/Bf110s attack shipping (everyone loves shipping targets) The central fighter vs fighter duel is the Bf109G2 vs La5 (an absolute classic match-up in my book.) so fighter jocks are happy and the 'bus drivers' too.
If you think I'm being a little harsh, I wouldn't be keen on pure fighter vs fighter maps either with no ground targets for the bombers and too many 'defender' maps isn't a great option either.

UKd3 aimed is fine :D - obviously I was thinking for non-auto called maps.

I agree having a balanced range of options is best although for the record I HATE ship targets :P

Let me add to this discussion.
I agree with Kat, ship bombing is only fun if you dive bomb with SBD or Val, and if the target is the carrier the we all know what I'm talking about... :)
It would be awsome if our bomber group can also do coordinated dive bombing, let's say in flights of 4 aircrafts flying echelon formation, all diving one after another like on factory line... (here is a hint for a new mission Kat ;) ).

Neither one of us bombers think this should turn into every day practice. We're just saying (and judging how people reacted when they saw 11 bomber formation :) ) that this is certany something you should look into.
We're suggesting that these maps be called only when a bunch of us gather on TS.
- And as for fighter vs. fighter maps only, offcourse that won't do. But! I have an idea, if you can hear me out... :)
Let's say there is a bunch of us on TS, more than 50-60% people from both teams. Then after people agree on TS - a new kind of map, specially suited for this kind of situations is called for. Settings on the map would be like this:
Each team has only one airfield, with an airstart, separated with 5-6 minutes of flying time. The team which anihilates more enemy planes first wins. Map duration could be limited on 30 minutes, and 30 planes downed as a goal which needs to be accomplished. This kind of map would be concentrated on large fighter battles focusing on teamwork and wingmans... obviously the best team wins, not the best player. :mp5: I think I'm speaking for all when I say that people playing this game simply love some good teamwork...

Let me know what you think of this...

EDIT: Yeah I forgot - maybe limit on only 2 or 3 types of planes on both sides...

Thor great idea although that sound like a coop mission, so why make a dogfight map out of it in the first place?

Who are the "people on TS" to decide for the rest of the crowd? Do people that don't speak english have their say? What about the people who join in the middle of the map? Is it fair that someone who's new to be asked not to waste planes because there's so little of them (on a full server everyone gets two flights with 30 planes). How about some of our fighter experts should we divide the player according to their skill to different teams, what happens when few people on TS decide to leave?

For the dive bombing business there's maps plenty of maps already on the server.

Yeah I just remembered we have at least 2 good maps with dive bombing, and one with airstart if I'm not mistaking... (Midway I think)

As for my Idea - there are and allways will be some newbies playing on the server. I imagined something like this: first we introduce this kind of a map on forums so people know what it is about, and then maybe a voting system. - If there is enough people interested, we ask someone to do such a thing and we all agree on when it will first be tested. It would we awsome to get some fast paced shootouts after a long bombing run. ;)
Maybe limit should be on 40 planes, as I said - this should be tested... It is still an idea in my head. :)
If people wouldn't be interested than the map wouldn't be called. Thats why I've put such a short duration - 30 minutes only. That's the beauty of it :D

And concerning of bomb missions planned to be admin called - you suggested UK3. I'm sorry but I do not have TrackIR so I'm poor excuse for a pilot on full real server... (just can't check my six) :o I did get 2 kills once on a Warclouds, but that was in La7 vs. jap planes...

PS: And I'm not such a bad fighter pilot myself... ;)

Whereas for me ship targets are my fave! Horses for courses and all that

Shouldn't need TrackIR on UK3 for bombers... pop into a rear facing turret and scan the sky's - your on autolevel and thus don't need to navigate too much - just pop to cockpit when you do.

Well - when UKD3 goes public, I believe most of our bombing runs will happen there...
Until I find myself a TrackIR, I'll manage somehow. :)

Remember that unless the group you have online at the time absolutely love bombing...the bombers will get turned into fighters. It might actually be entertaining but I'm not sure how serious you guys want to be about it :)

I participated in more than one COOP based TB-3 dogfight (two TB-3s, everyone mans a turret, and you circle each other like a pair of airborne gunships trying to bring the other one down) and its a blast! But its not at all serious...that could be a problem depending on who is on and what you want.

I've seen the co-op mission for this and I always meant to try it out. Anyone want to set one of these up sometime? I'd host it myself but i'm not sure my computer/connection are up to it.
