The only advantage I had in upgrading was that it allows me to send SMS text messages to mobile phones, but it doesn't work with all networks. :(

The other major "feature" is PC Talk to Talk, ie use your PC as a phone, kinda like Netmeeting. I have often pressed this button by accident and scared the crap out of the other person as their PC starts to ring. Loudly.

In your ICQ folder, there will be another folder called 2000a, this is your contact list and message history. It may not be necessary, but it is worth making a copy just in case.

As to whether it is worth YOU downloading, well that depends on what you use ICQ for. If it is just for plain text messaging, then stick with what you have otherwise the extra features will only make it more clumsy for you to use. If you want to try something a bit different, then upgrade.

I never bother backing mine up, I just ask one of the staff to forward me the contacts I want.

Really? I can't see people being bothered to get it if you have to pay for it. It isn't THAT good a tool.

This is one of those stupid forwards that someone starts saying 'Microsoft will be charging $95 now for ICQ'

Complete rubbish.

wile i jus upgraded to v2000b and it tells you how to save ur contact list. all you do is find a file (they say it's a folder) in ur icq folder called DBConvert. just copy/paste this anywhere where u'll find it, then if the new version doesnt automatically add ur database of contacts then run this and it will :) simple :)
i didnt have to run this btw.
