View Full Version : DF1 Terrains for DF2...An old idea revisited!

A while back, and with the help of some of the more noted map engineering gurus, I started a DF1 to DF2 Terrain Conversion Project.

This successful endeavor yeilded, to date, 23 of the old DF1 terrains (Ice Floes, Beachead etc.) ready for download and install to your DF2 game files. The downloads each contain instructions and a terrain packer that allows for simple installation.

The installation of the converted DF1 terrains do not effect any of the DF2 stock terrains, or DF2 gameplay on those terrains.

With these terrain conversions it is possible, by using FwO Ravens BMStoMIS converter, to take an old DF1 map and convert it for use on my terrains and play the map in DF2...pretty cool!

The terrains are available for download over at the DF/DF2 ICQ ActiveList Membership Support Website. Just click on the banner link below and look to the left frame for the "DF1 to DF2 Terrain Conversion Project" link. On the page you will find pictures of the DF1 terrains, along with a spreadsheet that defines the DF1 and DF2 terrain designators so you can quickly associate your old DF1 maps with the converted terrain in your DF2MED.

To spawn interest in the conversions, I have created the "DF1 Terrains" DF2 host. The host features 13 of my old DF1 custom TKOTH maps from the "Lucious - NO SAWS!" host.

It will be up periodically to determine the volume of usage. So hurry and get the terrains installed and we'll see you on the battlefield!

I think its all the hard work that people like yourself and the other guys that make the tweeks for the games that keep them so popular.

Is it possible to create skins for the players? I guess not otherwise it would have been done by now.

I spose you would have replied to it too LOL

Sorry dude, figured you answered your own question.

As stated by Morg's post elsewhere. If I did know I would probably trash the idea and not use it, and definately would not publicize it.

The reason being, although I share all I learn or run accross freely, it more than likely would be used to paint enemy as a bright object and would make a sort of cheat out of the MOD.

So your answer....

I have an opinion on this matter. Making player skins might be very possible but everyone seeing that skin might not be. For everyone to see the skin wouldn't everyone have to upload it. Because if they didn't the server would really slow down trying to refresh the screen with skins from other peoples computers. In European Air War for your skin to be seen, the others in the game have to download (using KALI or ICQ). Otherwise, they see the normal aircraft skin.

Your "Opinion" here is much more than that. It shows your experience and knowledge. Don't be shy. LOL

It is true with skins, terrains, or other altered objects within the code of any game, that all users who desire those changes to be visible in their game must install those changes to their game code as well.

The point here is simply that we need to limit the ways through our own vigilance and desire to contribute, the oportunity for those who do not want to play the game as it was designed to use a player skin mod to cheat or disadvantage others.

Think of this, by describing the method used to make the normal DF charecter to appear in the game to be Homer Simpson lets say, it would be also providing the info on how to make a players enemy appear as all white objects. This would obviously create more of an advantage and would naturally not be the original intent of the MOD, but it would likely be exploited in this manner.

I know this MOD exists but kudos to those not releasing, and especially not using, these MODS for fear of making DF/DF2 merely another sophisticated version of PONG!

Copy that Luscious.......
Although I do know how to edit some of the things in DF I would never use them or give them out...... TO ANYONE!!! I love DF and I am still trying to figure out a way to get rid of that darn pixel bug in DF1!

Mmmm I understand what you are saying but I like playing half life as homer Simson and Tiger or even adolf Hitler!

Surely when I play that game people cant make me apear as something I dont choose? Like a birght orange shoot me coloured person (not that Homer isnt bright). I always thought it would be cool to play in your own teams camo, I hae played wearing hte frogmans outfit, not that I enjoy wearing rubber, just that its diferent.

Are the DF1 terrains that were converted to DF2 still available anywhere?
I realize this thread was started 8 years ago, but someone out there somewhere must still have them, right?

Bruce Willis and his Armageddon team would have had trouble digging to this depth of the forums!!! :D

Seriously though, hope someone can help you out.

Have a butchers around [=http://www.terranova-exp.com/]TerraNova-EXP.com[/url]. I thought they used to have conversion tools and 'expansion packs' there, although the links aren't working. Might be worth asking on their forum.
