1944 and the Japanese army is in retreat. They struggle to cross the River Chindwin with the allied hot on their tail all the time harrassed by the plane they named the 'Whispering Death'.

Allies hit the shipping on the Chindwin plus the axis forces on either bank and their efforts to retreat accross.

Axis hit the approaching allies and a supply dump we failed to destroy in our hasty retreat.

I have a vague sense of unease looking at this. I'd be hellish nervous being a Val on this map (probably not for long though before having to respawn.:D )

Blues have three very light planes (lightly armed too)

Reds have three very tough planes(the Beau possibly even tougher than an IL2)

I think the Beaufighter is in more danger from crashing into the Jungle than enemy fire on this one, but we shall see I suppose.

Hehe - open to idea's... just want to include the beau and avoid the zero if at all possible :).

Ki21 instead of Val?

*chuckles* had a bit of a test ( never really having looked seriously at the strength of the beau against IJ planes).

Think it's going to be a case of :-

either

Zero + Beau

or

Neither..

I prefer the former as IMO the beau doesn't get used enough :P

Ki21
Ki61
Zero 1943 model

vs

IIb
IIC
Beau

Go later, is my thinking.
The Beau is 1944 plane so make it 1944-
Ki-61-I Hei and the Ki-84 1a Hayate are both available then with Ok cannons as well as machine guns, no Zeros. Both these planes where around flying in China and probably Burma too. Maybe Clipped wing SpitVIIIs and Beaus for Red and not bother with the Val.

Interesting direction, no reason to limit to 1943.. that would be the retreat right? So we'd be harrassing Japanese trying to cross the chindwin south (rather than north) whilst the IJA would be trying to hamper the advancing allies.

Good thinking Firelok. The increased speed would definitely help with the rather long routes both teams have to travel to get to their targets.

If you really wanted to go crap planes...Hawk 81, Buffalo Mark I, and Hurricane IIb against the Ki-21, Ki-27 and Ki-43.

Nah the idea is to do a 'whispering death' map. So the beau is central.

If you go for 1944, then you'd need to add

as most hurricanes were replaced with thunderbolt mk I/II in the ground attack role.

I don't think P-47 would hurt anyone here Kat. I suggest you should try it with the P-47.

Going to try it with just the two planes. Whilst the P47's did indeed serve in 1944 in Burma they don't appear to have been a bif factor and would also require quite heavy bomb restrictions as it appears they where either loaded with RP3's or, more commonly, 500lb bombs.

I very much like the idea of quite tight planesets and whilst I could add the P47 I don't think it's worth it. I MIGHT add the IIb but probably won't be needed ( tempted to add the IIb and Ki43 as airstarts should the airfields be short on spawn points ).

Mmmm ....P-47's replaced the Hurricanes in Burma in 1944 :)

(not sure on the dates)

Wispering Death is fine...I happen to like the Beau.

P47 never totally replaced the Hurris ( I have found plenty of squadrons using hurri's into 1945 ). So far the only squadron I've found that used P47's converted in sept - although I'm fairly sure that wasn't the eariest.

Ok Added pretty pictures of the targets :D

Just gotta do the detail stuff - breifings, ini etc.

Making sure the maps you have already submitted are actually working propositions really needs to be your priority rather than arguing over another idea.
This may sound a little harsh, I'm sorry but my function here isn't to be finishing off other peoples map ideas whilst they run off into the distance.

Unless you really, really know what you are doing (and have a feel for what works on dogfight maps) being in a hurry isn't what makes for success.
Better to have three great maps than fifteen mediocre hurried ones in my view.

I agree, I did actually pm you asking if you could remember where we where at with my other maps.

PQ20 I think may well be ok with the next test, and without that test can't do anything with it anyway :)

Dunkirk obviously we have another test, I'll wait for the test before re-examininng the German targets.

Dragoon I just sent you a minor update but is otherwise buttoned up I think.

Regarding Dunkirk you did ask if I minded you looking at it ;) - I wouldn't have had any problem looking back at it although I'm sure I wouldn't have been so severe with the trimming :P.
