Stats:

DVD
4xcontroller input
Ethernet-conection
Digital "out" for graphics

Via gamespot: NVidia graphics-cpu is lowered from 300MHz to 250Mhz
General CPU has gone from 600Mhz to 733MHZ (hahahaha! i've got a 1GHZ CPU!!!)

Biggest problem for game-developers: programming on the edge of the console-capabilities, and due to lower graph.cpu the games speed can go down alot.

youre on crack. no way M$ would drop out of the console race. matter of fact its just a pc, but its a cheap gaming machine. it really will own, and they already have given out dev packs so they can get going on making games.

im american, and that sounded pretty clear, but ok...,

the xbox is made by microsoft. they are using real pc hardware to make it. it is big, and has a 4gig hd in it with i guess a p3 733. microsoft released development packages (it has info on howto get the games to run on the operating system it will run, and tools they can use to make the games) to large companies so they can start working on games. the system is supposed (and really is) to be the best console for games. i think it will be sold next year.

btw, your pc isnt made for games. this cpu is going to be designed directly at gaming. that is like how the ps is aroun 133mhz, but for our pcs to handle it, it will need much more. also, the stuff they are testing right now, the DC will never be able to handle it.

Will be interesting to see what happens with it, though I suspect that it is the out and out console heads who reckon it will spell the end of the PC as a gaming platform.

Personally I reckon thats a bunch of arse. Granted this machine here is not designed specifically for games.... Hang on a mo, yes it is, I built this machine specifically with the aim of gameplaying. Granted in the true sense of the word it is a hybrid machine and while it cost twice as much as the anticipated X-box price I believe this machine can still do a lot of stuff that I wouldnt be able to do on MS's console, such as:

1) Play CM while browsing the net and watching tele.
2) play a game and then immediately switch to something like Access or Word
3) Store over 300 albums in MP3 format.
4) Upgradeability - DC owners with their 33kbs modems will know what I mean
5) If the PS2 is anything to go buy, games will cost about £15 more for the X-box than PC.
6) I can use this machine here without depriving anyone else of the TV
7) I get better resolution graphics on my monitor.

I have to admit I am always bemused by the assumption that the introduction of technology or game X will spell the death of platform/game Y. Ok in some cases its true but for a little bit of everything, you are hard pushed to beat the PC/Mac.

And to finish, am I the only one that thinks sticking a harddisk in a console will spell the death of the one true advantage of them over PC's, ie the ability to stick in a disk and have the game work from day one without having to continually patch the sodding thing?

well the machine youre on isnt made for the purpose of games. its made for flexability. so yes, its used to play games, but also for everything else under the sun. your purpose of buying that machine was to play games, and you built it to be a better gaming machine, but thats not really what the cpu was targeted towards...., the xbox cpu is programmed specifically for games. (plus their stupid options and playing music or similar) im not saying the xbox is god, and ima throw out my box, im just saying this thing is one hell of a machine.

They'l to release a lot of good games with the release of the x-box tho.

the one big good thing about consoles its that you can easily hook 'm up to a projector so you can enjoy a game in the size of maximal 6x6 meters (size of my neighbours white wall :D) Tried it with the pc aslo, but the cpu i had then was stressed to the maximum and images weren't very good.

"well the machine youre on isnt made for the purpose of games" (panto time) Oh yes it is. I specced components specifically to get the best out of games rather than, say, crunching spreadsheets. Granted to be picky, the base architecture is still a hybrid design, but as a PC, it has a heavy Bias to getting the most out of games.

Arguably, the CPU in here (Duron) is targeted to games, or at least shifting 3D Graphics, but I take your point :)

Certainly as consoles go, the X-Box is the most impressive on paper, however as with the PC, its strengths are also its weaknesses. Where the PC excels at games already points to this. Traditionally Consoles are great at shifting graphics, makes them great little boxes for sports games, beat 'em ups and platforms. I wouldnt however want to try and run something like Falcon 4 or Championship manager on a console. Conversely, I wouldnt want to attempt to get 4 drunken mates sat round this machine at 2am to have a bash on Micro-Machines or tekken.

That above all is the most important distinction between the two as far as I am concerned. By and large my console is a social toy, I rarely spend that much time playing on it on my own. The PC is my platform of choice for Solo or net based gaming (assuming I had a choice on my PS2)

The simple answer:

IF Japan do not take to the X-Box, it WILL FAIL !!!!

Sputnik

Yes, Japan is a real testcase with all those electronic-junkies around. When will it be released there?

I can't answer that mate..sorry.

But they are ALL Square heads in Japan, and Microsoft are having trouble getting Square to sign up for the X-box. IF the machine fails to quench the thirst for hard core RPG's in Japan, the machine is doomed.

But in the USA, it is another story. Although Americans also love RPG's, they seem to love the SPORTS games just as much. BUT, IF the machine crumbles in Japan, then there will be no RPG's to convert to the USA and so on.

At the last games show in Japan, they all ignored the X-box.

Just herad that Lego is getting help from Microsoft with their software-problem in the toys, and that Lego will develop games for the X-box. (This is especially a nice thing for the really young gamers and the dads that need an excuse to buy the X-box.:))
