Hello,

I am working on a map for UKD1. It is themed for early-mid 1942. Be gentle because my knowledge for fighter planes is appalling :D

My plane set is:

RED:

Yak 1B
Yak 7B 1942
Yak 9 1942
Pe3 bis (1941)
Pe2 1942 (110 series)
P-40E M 105 field mod
P-39N1 1942
MiG-3 UD 1941
La5 1942
LaGG-3 1942 (35 series)
Il-2M 1942 (first series)
Il-2 1942 field mod
Il-2 1941 (3 series)
A-20 C
Tu-2S
Pe8
Il-4

BLUE:

Ju-88 A4
Ju-88 D-5
He111 H-6
Fw200
Fw190 A4
Bf-109 G2
Bf 109 F4
Bf 109 E7B
Bf 109 E7Z
Bf 110 G-2

Any suggestions?

Looks like a lot of planes to choose from, I can see a lot of the earlier marks being ignored because there are better planes to choose from. For example, how many people will fly and F4 with a G2 about?

alrighty, Bf109 F4 will be taken away.
anymore planes to go away?

It is themed for early-mid 1942.

Frankly enormously useful. However it's UK1 so it's best to be flexible.
If you really want the 109G2 there then set yourself to thinking 'what's the counter to that for reds?' or they are all flying the G2 what am I going to fly.
Let's face it it's the La5/Yak9 combo. As stanfords pointed out there is a lot of extras here. (A smaller planeset means less static aircraft types to put in too:) )
What about this...

RED
Yak 1B
Yak 9 1942
Pe2 1942 (110 series)
P-39D2
La5 1942
Il-2M 1942 (first series)
A-20 C
{Pe8}-depends on your targets it's got lots of boom
{Il-4}-if you have the Pe8 this isn't neccessary.

BLUE

Fw190 A4
Bf-109 G2
Bf 110 G-2
Ju-87 D-3

{Ju-88 A4}
{He111 H-6}-again all three of these have the big boom option
{Fw200}
He111 H-2-as an alternative to the big boom option.

Making targets that can survive more than one attack by the 4000kg+ bombers is tough work(and often needs so many target objects this can cause laggy issues.). Setting aside the Ju88,He111-H6,FW200,Pe8 would highlight your medium bombers the Pe2/Ju87 D-3/A20C/IL4 which require more skill laying down a stick of bombs compared to the 4000kg+ mob. You've got to decide if what you've made can withstand the max bombload of the planes you put in.

Thanks firelock for the list and suggestions. That has definitely kept fighters set balanced for both sides.

I need to decide about bombers. Will be doing this evening

As I've said before I personally favour the restricted plane set maps. That's not to say lots of planes is a bad thing, it's quite interesting to come up against various opponents. I suppose it's best to try to ask yourself "what would I fly" on the map. Generally speaking 80% of pilots will just pick the best plane and be done with it, so even though there's lots of choice pilots may not utilise everything at their disposal.

Firelok makes a number of good suggestions there, with his blue plane set you have one of each type of fighter and bomber - i.e. for bombers he's selected a twin fast fighter bomber, a dive bomber a level bomber. Something for everyone.

RED:

Yak 1B
Yak 7B 1942
Pe2 (110 series)
P-40E
MiG-3 UD
LaGG-3 (29 series)
Il-2M 1942 (first series)
Il-2 1941 (3 series)
Il-4

BLUE:

Ju-88 A4
Ju-88 D-3
He111 H-6
Bf 109 F4
Bf 109 E7B
Bf 110 G-2

More early 1942 set. Even in this it's too early for Il-2M and Yak-1B.

bomb booms won't be a problem since targets are a little far away from each other. Flaks are a little meaner for bombers :)
