The Mosquito topic reminded me about this, the Mosquito and (I think) Typhoon mission to knock down the walls of/ destroy Amiens prison.

I thought it might make an interesting map, although I admit i don't actually have a clue about actually building a map but we have Mosqiutos and Tempests that could stand in for Typhoons?

Interesting idea!

I remember when I was younger the Imperial War Museum had a motion simulator thingy using footage of the raid. Great fun!

I'm not sure how a map with such a limited objective would work on the servers though? We'd need to have more targets and also targets for the blues.

In it's purest form though, it would defiantely be workable if run along the same lines as Firelok's 633 squadron and MajorDamage's Rescue Mussolini missions at one of the Supporters evenings.

We do have a map with Mosquitos attacking a castle (is it Dalmatia?), and also a map with rocket-armed Tempests masquerading as Typhoons though in an anti-shipping role (Scheldt). Interesting idea and definitely worth considering. I also think it could make a good mini-megamission style thing for Supporter events.

Yep I made Dalmatia with that in mind TBO and Scheldt with Tempest forced to use rockets as anti-shipping Typhoons.

The problem as I see it as a combined idea is that the Mossie we have is 40Kph slower than the Tempest on the deck, maybe rockets shave off a bit of the Tempests outrageous velocity but not much. We really need that late-war Mossie VI action rather than the MossieFBIV we have. Tempests are faster than our Mossie and can carry exatly the same weight of bombs. Mossie is 4x500lbs max, Tempest 2x1000lbs.
So what I'm getting at is the Mossies outrageous low-level speed only counts for an earlier period. In Jan 1944 she isn't that fast the FW190A6 is faster and with Tempests around that's the sort of FW190 we'd have to use at least.

THis is the Dalmatia thread, I made it fairly early last year.

It's an interesting idea Ali but one that the planes we have to use are going to cause us problems perhaps. Jagdgeschwader 26 was the unit who opposed them i don't know what FW190's they had in Jan44 though. What would Blues attack? if we were going to do a standard Dogfight map is another thought. Or would it be a pure defend for blues? Ouch! 17 FW190s
Major's idea of a specialist event map might be the one to run with.

I hope you get a chance to fly Dalmatia at some point it is certainly in the 'spirit' of the Operation Jericho raid and involves breaching the wall of the castle and taking out the guards barracks along with a radar station.

II/JG26 in early 1944 should be using FW190A-5 and A-6s. I forget if they had any A-7s (A-8) at that time. In looking at the records I wouldn't be surprised if they had A-4s in the inventory as well. Thats off the top of my head but should be more or less accurate.

I'm not sure if this will work Ali...we've got a map with the Tempests subbing as Typhoons and it works...but the Mossie is rendered useless. The Mossie is unfortunately not what we hoped it would be.

^^^

I had considered doing a Jericho map myself, but for UK3.

Maybe with the plane set limited to 18 Mosquitos and the rest FW190As, it could perhaps be done as a 30 minute quickie.

Is one of the Normandy maps a winter setup, or is it only Ardennes?

All Normandy maps are summer ones.

The words 30 minute quickie and mosquito should not be used in the same sentence when it comes to you guys forming up and actually getting airborne in UK3.:D

Operation Jericho is one of those idea which is great for coops, closed DF sessions (mega mission/syndicate event type stuff) but not so for open DF server environment (Ukded servers on most nights).
