IARvsI16sthread (http://www.battle-fields.com/commscentre/showthread.php?t=14735)
I decided not to wait for a Bessarabia map that may or may not be coming, also the posted pics of it as a work in progress, it's a whopper. If it shows up and it's useable I'll convert.

REDUSSR
I-16type18
MiG-3
Yak-1=12
DB-3M
BLUE FARR (Romanian Airforce.)
Bf-109E-4=12
P_11c
HurricaneMkI
IAR80
IAR81a
J8A
DB-3F(as Savoia bomber)

109 Emils are limited by Spawn as well as overall numbers.
I decided to steer clear of the He112 as we don't have a good analog and everything else on blue side was definately flying in the Bessarabia area.
Plenty of choice without adding another plane.
Russians basically had tons of i-16s, some MiGs and a few Yaks.
Only one TB3 mission is all I found (an SBD mission no less.)which was a long range strike against a bridge in Bessarabia.
I decided to stay away from TB3s (hard things to map balance out too.)

Some of the Black Sea Fleet approaching Odessa Harbour.

Soviet defences along the beach.

Romanian Navy supply operation

By the numbers, Romanian Infantry HQ (with officers quarters)

Last Land Convoy In Before the Siege

So early Russian front, very limited armoured targets.
Some turbulence near the ground.
Total lack of SpitfireIX's,109G2s, Tempests,P51s, La5FNs or Jets so a real crowd pleaser then. ;)

I got a lot of juicy research about all this and enjoyed putting it together.

This looks ace. I really like the look of the planeset - different to our usual early war eastern front mix. Hopefully it will make people rethink their attitudes to planes they wouldn't normally fly.

The targets look really cool too, the fleet coming to harbour is particularly nice.

You testing this tonight?

You testing this tonight?

Anyone's free to test maps anytime, it's just essential to get feedback here that's all, in some ways it's better not being around to explain things and find things on the map. I can't guarantee I'll be about tonight you see.
P.S. the inner harbour is dressed BTW I didn't put pics of that in.

Made some changes, Reduced the cloud level so as there is no turbulence to annoy Kaiser:D
Increased the amount of Yak1s available to 24 and limited the IAR81a to 12
So blues have 12 109E4's and 12 IAR81a's

Bumpity Bump:)

As I said at the start of this if the online map of Odessa was suitable i'd convert, started mucking around with it this afternoon.

From the layout of the available airfields a 'coastal' type scenario isn't going to work, with the groovy new objects we have should be able to make some nice defensive positions, maybe an armoured train target too.

The airfields in the Odessa area of this map are quite a new layout and it's hard to predict whether a whole team (17players) can spawn on them or indeed the DBM and DBF bombers will work OK taking off from them, when we get proper 4.09 I'm hoping this should be ready to try out this online map straight away.

Dunno what to do with the old one, it's a shame to lose hours of work maybe an alteration of the planeset and making it about the area around Yevpatoria in the Crimea is possible.:o

Looking very nice. I know what you mean it would be a pity to lose all that work, why not as you say convert it to Yevpatoria?

No discredit intended, but if we get the chance to tighten up the cycle we should take that opportunity and not clutter it up with "conversions" just to keep a map in.

You know that I'm aware of the time it takes to create a mission, but we need to part with our work if its time has come. Many times I have offered my agreement to remove Libau or any other maps of mine that only hang in the cycle without being perfect. ;)

After checking the new 4.09 object list someone posted and looking at this latest screenshot I ask: are existing maps going to be modified so they can use some of these new objects?

Some examples where new stuff could be used:
-those new tank obstacles etc. could be used in D-Day landings maps.
-new factory related objects could improve maps like Vemork that have factory ground targets

you are right, however. what was the last early Ostfront map I have made?

Odessa.

It doesn't involve massive luftwaffe advantage.(you know even the 109E is a great plane vs early VVS stuff.) who is going to implement an 'early' pre-Sevastopol map?

as for 'tightening up' the cycle, why?

This now is our biggest advantage, I'm saying that UKDedicated 2 uses the largest spread of ideas and scenarios, map, missions of all IL2Sturmomik FB servers. Find me one who uses more? And I'll happily retract what I've typed.

This variety and depth and accurracy is exactly what UK2 is about...

It's UK2's biggest advantage,

Looking good that!

No need to replace the 'old' Odessa mission with a new one IMO. The 'old' scenario works good, so it should be kept. Why not having two Odessa missions?

Pretty much finished the fun bits of the new Odessa, need to wait for 4.09m now (oh, and the server version :) )
