Just and idea.

B-29s/B-17s (escorted by P-51s etc.) bomb Berlin on the other side while the USSR airforce try to do the same.

The idea is to have US/RAF and USSR craft at the same time engaging the remainder of Luftwaffle possibly from both sides if the mission editor permits it :D

Red
US/RAF
P-51
B-29
B-17
Tempest

USSR
La-7
Yak-3
Yak-9U
IL-10
Blue
Luftwaffle
Bf-109K4 C3
FW-190D-9
Me-262
He-162

Or some other planeset. Just would be intresting to see both the US/RAF and USSR fighting at the same time.

I believe that there already was a map like this, but it was cancelled because of huge lags over Berlin itself iirc.

Going over Berlin is like returning to the internet circa 1997. It slows everything way down:(

I remember that Berlin map. First time I got 4 kills in one sortie with a Mustang. :p

Lag - one word to describe flying over Berlin at low alt on that map.

I like the idea tho Finn. :)

We can select smaler city then, or factorys/harbours. Was there any B29s over Germany?

Well, it won't work for UK3 anyway because of AI planes.

I can make one with B-25s if you think it's durable enough for 30mm cannons. Or more interestingly an air superiority mission?

I thought about this before too. I wanted to seperate it out so that the RAF attacked tactical targets ie Fighter bomber objectives while the USAAF attacked strategic targets with level bombing while the VVS attacked tactical objects from the East.

No B29s just B25s, B17s and B 24s imo

With Beafighters and Mosquitos and Tempests attacking for the RAF, IL10s, P63, Yak3 and La7 for teh Russkis

This would be a tough map for both sides

Vienna? Prague? Allied fighter-bombers (read jugs and lightnings)? Using Kiev map?

Yak-9U
Yak-3
La-5FN
Il-2M3
Pe-2
P-39Q
P-51D
P-47D
P-38L
B-25 (russian ADD and USAAF)
AI B-17s and B-24s with airstarts

Bf 109K-4
Bf 109G-10/14
FW 190D
FW 190 A/F-8
Ju 88A
Ju 87G

Some supply type targets, but mostly combat troops in close quarters with imminent possibility of friendly fire?

;)

This is exactly what was cooking in my head.

So B-29s were only used in the Pacific I take it?

What kind of planes would the blue get? Limited jets of somekind? Or some of the other -46 stuff (read X-4/Ta-152C)?

Whilst internet researching about the FARR the romanian airforce I found out that the Ploesti area was under attack from the USSR and the USA.in 43-44?

P38s,B24s/B25s-Pe2s-Tu2s,Yaks?

109Gs/Fs and IAR81c's? dunno if there was FW190 activity there from the Luftwaffe.

bit off the wall I know but it's an idea.

Makes a change from the usual late war fest, sounds good.

My ideal ploesti scenario has always been one with just p-38j as fighter/fighter-bombers against IAR-81c and bf 109G-6.

They did pull that off a few times IIRC.

Why not a P51 B/P38J vs IAR-81c/109G6 map.

I started one a long time ago but got sick of FMB half way through...maybe I'll dust it off if there are no takers

Problem for me is that the P 51 B is hugely better than the Bf 109 G6 in all areas. As well as being up to 60 mph faster It can even out turn and out climb the poor old G6 if it is at a light fuel load. At least the P 38 J pilot has to worry about compressibility and poor rate of roll.

Its like watching that horrible episode of Dogfights where Bud Anderson tells us how he out climbed and out turned those 2 Bf 109s.

as for the P 51 B vs the IAR 81 - at 4500m the P 51 is over 100mph faster !

At one stage the FARR was fighting other 109 types too, Hungarian,Bulgarian,German. Because they changed to the Allied side in late-44 I think.

well, the Axis will have more firepower in this matchup.

Anyways, this map is definitely on the back burner as I'm working on a map right now (drat, the cats out of the bag!):p
