Tempest map request again im afraid.

It doesnt need to be an entirely new map it could just be a re admission for the plane to a map it used to be on.

I have just read Beamonts Tempest Over Europe, one mission he carried out, with 3 squadrons, was the long range escort of 340 Lancasters and Halfiaxes on a daylight bombing mission attacking the oil storage facilites at Gelsenkirchen in the Ruhr area.

It was a a proper full on escort mission with drop tanks and an over 600 mile round trip. No enemy fighters were encountered. The mission took place on September 11, 1944.

I thought it would be cool to have this scenario as there would be the possibility of having a small planeset and the rareity of having zero Spitfires :)

Red side:

Tempests
Pe 8s (Lancaster)
and maybe
B24 (Halifax)

Blue side:

Fw 190 A9
Bf 109 G10
and maybe a few Do 335

Red Targets:

Havent really thought much about targets but it would be nice to be able to bomb some massed soft targets with the Pe 8 and the old 5000 kg bomb loadout. Kind of like Vermok's target area but on a flat landscape.

Blue Targets:

Really there are no Blue targets in this scenario other than the bombers and escort, however a set of Tactical targets could be made for Fw 190 A9s with 500kg bomb and perhaps Do 335 to take out. Like a tank column or some British Army forces deployed around some forests in Holland.

The alternative to this idea would be to re introduce the Tempest to the Dortmund map with or without bomb/rocket loadouts.

Any thoughts?

I had a mission with P38L, P47 and Tempest in mind. Same time frame as you suggested.

lol thats a coincidence Zorin :)

What are your feelings about possibly keeping this strictly RAF vs Luftwaffe however?

I dont want to change your idea if it is fully formulated but it would be my preference for a scenario exlcuding the USAAF like Dortmund currently excudes the RAF just for varietys sake.

One alternative to my idea would be the inclusion of the P51 C (Mustang III - normal boost) for the RAF?

what would be a good RAF only planeset for September 44 with tactical ground attack in mind in your opinion? (don't give me 5 different Spits ;) )

Tempest
Typhoon
Spitfire IX e CW (as a Mk XVI)

and thats it

Although it would be nice to have no spits at all for one Western front RAF biased map.

I didnt think the 2nd TAFused the Mossie or the P51 for tactical work ? I thought the P51 was used for recon and escort and the Mossie for recon, intruder, nightfighter and deep strikes.

We can't have Tempest and Typhoon. Only one of the two, as we only specify that the Tempest has to carry rockets to represent a Typhoon.

I think up until sometime in early 1945 there was at least one 2nd TAF unit using Mustang Mark IIs (and maybe IIIs) in the tactical role. There were Mustangs all over the 2nd TAF mostly as recon and squadron hacks but occasionally in other roles. Mossies and Bostons were also quite active with the 2nd TAF until Mitchells began phasing out the Bostons in mid March 1945. There was also a bit of overlap with the Polish RAF squadrons and their Mustang IIIs.
