This is a thread for map makers to use as quick reference for appropriate historical and IL2 balanced map planesets. Most of the choices are historical, but some are related to IL2's ecentricities and lack of certain types. The guide shall be done in four parts, ETO,MTO,PTO and Eastern Front, and shall be broken down in to seperate years and seasons eg ETO Mid 43 ect.

ps please point out any mistakes or exclusions and I'll try and update the list

Good idea there Boemher. Should come in very handy for the inexperienced map makers and even I sure will use it especially for the Pacific :)

Though I have to disagree regarding the Mosquito. As far as I know, the first B.IV. were delivered to 105. Squadron on 15.11.1941, making it hardly an early 1942 plane, but sure not a mid 1941 one.

Additionally, the FB. VI. first flew in February 1943. So not an option for any 1942 scenario.

But please correct me if that is wrong, cause I-net sources often prove to be wrong. :)

Hi Zorin, you may have me on the B I.V there. I said Mid 41 because it is AI only , its pretty slow and because in reality the first PR versions were flying around about that time. The F.B VI is a 42 plane because its performance is identical to the NF II which entered service in January 1942. The only difference is the F.B VI carries bombs, thanks to Oleg we dont have the majority variant Mosquito F.B VI, we have the earliest poorest performant so why not have it in 42 when it actually does have comparitively good performance even if we ecourage its use as a fighter and lock the bomb options :)

Ju 87 pretty much disappeared from western front after late 1940.

While B-25C (AI only) did go operational in january '43, I would substitude it with the cockpited B-25J until 1944.

A-20C (A-20K/J actually but glass nosed anyway) was used by USAAF until late 1944 and by the RAF well in to 1945.

Fw 190 jaboes is a tricky subject only designated version we have is the F-8 which is a 1944 arrival. As a plane the F-8 is a good substitude many jabo fockes with the exception of the very earliest A-3/4 variants, if you like to make a map without FW fighters and don't want to use the restriction option in SC.

In the west most german daylight bombing was done by jabos after the battle of britain.

Limited amount of bf 109G-6 A/S can be used in early 1944 maps.

P-38s were pretty much phased out during the spring '45.

Good points Algore. I thought there was a slim chance of encountering Stukas over Europe mainly over occupied Europe as they seem to still appear in Allied pilots claim reports especially when strafing Luftwaffe bases. The B25 and A20 are basically playing the role of all the Allied medium bombers so Wellington, Hampden, B26 you name it. Its a tough call but having them on most of the maps including the updated A20 G is kind of a compromise. P38 shall be removed for mid 45 maps

I had completely forgotten about the F8 lol I shall add it, however SC is the most useful tool here in making Jabo Fw 190s imo.

Great idea Boemher. I will certainly use it.

Thanks
