View Full Version : Random Map Idea

Inspired from a 'Dogfights' episode I just saw called 'The Legend of Y-29' (mentioned this in another post, too...)

Thought it might make a fun map on one of the servers. Early on New Year's Day 1945 (with hungover USAAF pilots.) German FW-190's (I assume A or F models) and Me-109's go on a massed strike to bomb allied airfields. P-47's (Razorbacks as depicted in show) already on an attack mission see them coming, jettison ordinance, and intercept. P-51D's waiting on the ground see the flak and rise to intercept. The whole dogfight took place at treetop level, dodging the slag piles and allied flak.

My idea would be to restrict the altitude level by placing an overcast ceiling around 1000-2000 feet to keep the planes down, and restrict most B&Z action. Sunrise setting, over hilly terrain, with the restricted planeset. Blue objective being ground targets, red to knock out as many attackers as possible. (I guess the real battle was something like 1 P47 lost, to 8 190's and 16 109's... or something like that...)

Well, I'm no mapmaker. Never tried, and not in a hurry to start, but it was on my mind after watching that exciting episode, and I thought I'd throw something out there if any of you creative types wanted an idea to consider!

Here's a neat link I found with more info:

That would be Operation Bodenplatte (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Bodenplatte).

Not suitable for a regular server, but worth considering for a DedicatedMission.

There are too many limiting factors that would make it a lot less fun for the unexperienced pilots.

Yep the Legend of Y-29 inspired me to make one of the Ardennes scenarios. Not sure if its still in rotation but it was.
