Introduction
My latest attempt at remaking the remake of the remake of the Kyushu map. Yes we're on revision 4 of this scenario. Its a toughie and while the current version is more or less of a success...its still not perfect and has some glaring issues. I'm trying to resolve those and make this a more enjoyable map at the same time.

The layout
http://colin.polariscreations.com/images/kyushu4.png

This map takes place in the north rather than south of the Kyushu map. This is done partly to get a change of scenery but also because I think it might help the flow.

The Allied airbase is in AJ32...it consists of two sets of four concrete runways done up to look like a floating fortress/super aircraft carrier. This was the only way to make use of all of the aircraft I wanted. It doesn't look as ridiculous as it sounds and we've already done this sort of thing on the server before so I figure its ok. One of the sets of concrete is for takeoffs while the other is for recovery of all types.

The second Allied spawn point is an airstart. This is for the B-29 bombers only simulating their start in China, from the Marianas, or from Okinawa. This location is guarded by two Destroyers which look like they are on downed aircrew recovery. Their primary goal is to discourage campers who hang out around the airstart. Now they will have to deal with flak.

For the Japanese they have one full airbase and one improvised strip. The full airbase is in the line of fire beteween the bombers and targets so a second airbase was essential.

This version of the map is a bit closer together than the previous version. The paths to targets cross and converge a fair bit so there should be some chaotic fighting going on at various altitudes. The Japanese side now has a much requested target to attack.

Targets
RED Targets are:
- Factories in AL29 (railcars are in each of the major factory structures)
- Vehicle supply depot in AJ29

BLUE Targets are:
- US Navy supply group in AL32 (consists of sleeping escort carrier, two sleeping heavy cruisers, two destroyers for defense, and several cargo ships)

Planeset
RED
F4U-1C (limit 20)
F4U-1D
Corsair Mark IV
F6F-5
P-38L Late
P-47D
P-51D-20NA
B-29
Seafire Mark L.III

BLUE
Ki-43-II-Kai
Ki-61-I-Hei
Ki-61-I-Otsu
Ki-84-Ib
Ki-84-Ic (limit 15)
Ki-100-I-Ko
A6M7 Model 62
J2M5
N1K2-Ja
G4M1 Model 11

The planeset is a survey of all late war aircraft in the theater. I've tried to keep the numbers down while at the same time offering as many types as possible. There is some duplication but I've tried to keep that intentional. For instance the F4U-1D and Corsair IV are essentially the same plane but both served here and the Corsair IV gets such little workout that I thought it important to include. Also its handling is subtlety different and Corsair drivers may appreciate that. The Ki-61 was still an important type for defense of Kyushu. Unfortunately we don't have the Ki-61-Tei which would have been the 20mm nose cannon equipped version...so we have the Hei and the Otsu together. I can see cutting one of them...maybe. Ki-100 is here as this is virtually the only theater it served in (limited use over Okinawa as well). I debated on having both J2M3 and J2M5 but couldn't find a reason...willing to go one way or the other on that one.

Of course the B-29 is a centerpiece on this map as its necessary for bombing the targets.

Discuss all aspects of this map please.

Looks promising, but are you sure you want to have the bases so close together? For a late war scenario I'd highly recommend 5x5 as a good distance, otherwise there won't be enough air to get any organized efforts going, IMO.

Looking forward to this.

Kuyshu is one of my top 5 maps on UKD1 atm so the more I can stuff this sweetness the better :D

I thought about that ...and I decided to move them a tiny bit closer. People were always complaining about the flight times on the other version of this map. If its a problem it wouldn't take too long to move the starts back a bit.

Actually I think maybe the B-29 start should be moved back a tad. I'm trying to balance distance with time to climb versus reasonable number of sorties before time runs out (this one will have to last for a while I think).

Anyone have any objections to adding the B6N Jill and TBM Avenger? Hard to fly...but if MODs become the thing then I guess that'd be less of a problem.

Don't forget the Ki-46!

Good point. Which one? :)

Only Kai has weaponry ;)

Kai...and Kai Otsu :)

Not sure how useful the vertically firing cannon would be with no way to aim it.

You've got 200 rounds and tracers.

Enough in my book to land a few 37mm hits on those B-29s :D

I like the old Kyushu a lot but I am looking forward to this one.

This seems a good choice. To reach 6 or 7k and line up properly the B29s have to make a detour anyway but it saves them from being attacked during their initial climb.

Still I don't want to give too much distance. I also know how frustrating it is to climb to 6000 meters and get rammed on the first pass by a J2M5.

So I have to try and find some sort of compromise. On the upside...the B-29s can climb towards the Red airbase in AJ32...any blue fighters there will probably be lower or in trouble :D

As of now REDs will need roughly four minutes to arrive over the main BLUE airbase. This will melt down during the mission to a constant presence over the area. So it will either end in fantastic fights or map killing base camping.

Besides that, how did you manage to have the targets and active ships/aaa so close together without them firing at eachother?

Base camping should be alleviated by the second base and decently heavy AAA fire. Japanese 3 barrel flak is both lag friendly and very devastating :)

As for the ships...haven't completely tested for that actually. They weren't firing at anything the last time I checked....but I will again.

Looking good Ice, send a PM when when you think you've finished the project, then I'll give ya my mail address so I can add it to the server and replace the old Kyushu with it.

Thanks and will do! Have some more work to do on it ...but maybe by the end of the weekend it'll be ready to test. I'll probably send it and Moscow42 together.

Ok I've been working on this one and it still needs work so it'll be a while yet. I don't feel good about it yet...

As long as the Ki-46 fortress buster is in I'm a happy camper :D

Looks great m8, can't wait for it.

I dunno if it was introduced with mods but I can aim the vertical cannon in closed pit view, you simply look upwards and there's a second sight on the canopy.

Yes the UK-1 version will have to be different ....but structurally I'm planning on it being similar.

B-29 takeoffs would be messy in any server.

The AL30 base is in such a good spot I don't really want to move it...although its behind the industry its supposed to protect. This is both good and bad which is why blue needs some sort of viable alternative.
