Metal Gear Solid was a classic game, and I looked forward to the arrival of Metal Gear Solid 2, but unfortunately it came out for the PS2, which I don't have :( So, I was wondering if anyone has information about it coming out on PC, or if it is any good! :D

Hello
i know that MGS2 is wicked
it is one of the best games every made
but i think there is a rare chance of it coming to PC
since it is now DVD but it can be possible
lets just hope that Konami makes MGS2 for the PC
but i would be playing it on PC since i dont have a controller
so i will have to get a PS2:)

Well... as you can understand, I am not gonna buy a PS2 for just one game... I guess I'm stuck then! :(

Just to avoid confusion, maybe I am misunderstanding your tenses, but Metal Gear Solid 2 is not yet out. A demo for it is currently available over here when you buy a copy of Zone of Enders, also made by Konami and Hideo Kojima (the guy behind MGS2). The game looks lovely yes, and I'm sure it will be incredibly cinematic, but I hope that it is longer than its predecessor because that was too short in my opinion.

As for whether or not it will appear on the PC, who knows. Metal Gear Solid X has been officially announced for the X-Box but there is some confusion as to what this title will be, although it is looking like it will be MGS2 with some extra bells and whistles.

Hope that helps.

Hmmmm well,

One of the "bints" from that horrid games tv show BITs, did an interview with a Konami bloke. He said the game is about the same length as the first one :(

ALL cut scenes and not a lot more then !!! SHAME. But lets see how it turns out. ;)

Well, that's a let down.
MGS2 is out at about October I think, and I am thiking a bit more seriously about getting a PS2 now. I wouldn't mind to have a go at Tekken Tag, and Armoured Core 2 is great.

I think we'll be lucky to get MGS2 in October Grim, regardless of what Konami say. :(

As for Tekken Tag Tournament, you have if a PS (if your reviews are anything to bo by) so make do with Tekken 3, and just look at the screenies for TTT on the web. That way you get the gameplay of TTT (pretty much) and you can admire the graphics without having to shell out money. Tekken 4 has been seen on Namco release schedules and we may even see something of it at the main games expo, E3 next month. That's the one to start getting excited about in my opinion.

Oh, and then there is the small matter of Soul Calibur 2 (also seen on Namco's release schedule) and Sega's Virtua Fighter 4 which looks absolutely gorgeous. We beat-em-up fans should have a lot to look forward to. :)

Another mighty sentence from Joker there :-)

It's important to remember Joker that half those games you mentioned aren't out yet, or at least aren't out over here in the UK. Onimusha is not out here, MGS2 may not be out this year and I think we'll be lucky if FFX makes it this year as well. By the time these titles DO surface, the machine will no doubt be cheaper. Perhaps then is a good time to buy it, but at this moment in time, my personal reccomendation to anyone considering getting a console is to leave the PS2 out of the equation until some of these big-hitters have been released. Even then, lets hope they live up to expectations.

As for Half-Life, the long delayed Dreamcast version is due out in summer from what I can gather, but unless they have changed it during the last few months when the game has been away from the spotlight, it will NOT have online play. There was talk of a second multi-player only title with TFC, OF:CTF, HLDM etc but given the recent cancellations from third party developers on the DC and the removal of various online elements from big titles, I sadly doubt that this will see the light of day. Having said that though, if online play is what you are looking for, the DC version of Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament come highly recommended, as does Phantasy Star Online.

The PS2 version of Half-Life I don't think is scheduled to include online support either, simply a split screen multiplayer option including some sort of cooperative mode. Again we'll have to wait and see.

In a few months when we start to see the big titles released on the PS2, that is when it'll be time to judge the machine.

Prepare for a essay
aimed at brig
well you see
so what if the games are not out
i agree with you about not buying it till the best games come out
i was offered a ps2 but i didnt want it
for many reasons
one being the good games arent out yet
as you can see there are other wicked games out for the ps2 already
such as (long list)
Time splitters
SSF
Unreal Tournament coming soon
Tekken Tag Tournament
Street Fighter EX3
Fantavision
loads more others............
cant be bothered to carry on with the list
back to the point
as you can see i agree with you saying that the DC has games like PSO (Phantasy Star Online)
but remember you cant always get online with the DC internet
so your better off getting a PS2 than a DC
the DC might be out of business once i read in a magazine
if you think about it
getting a PS2 will give enough advantages
such as another list (sorry)
Playing wicked games and sequals
Watching DVD
backwards compatiable (in other words allows you to play Playstation games on the PS2 but with smoother graphics and faster loading time)
Internet in the near future
some other things which i forgot but im sure it has much more than any other consoles
if you want a playstation
get a playstation 2
wanna nintendo go for it although im not recommending since it has gone downhill lately
dreamcast not sure but it has many great arcades games
or you could wait for the X box which isnt coming out till ages and the Gamecube
i would recommend you a PS2 if you want a console
because you can play old playstation games and also you get good games now and even better games later
DVD player and many other things
and im sure the dreamcast dont have as much
let me round things up
this is getting really long
Dreamcast
£150 not sure about in dollars sorry
but with good games on it and might be out of business
or a
Playstation 2
£300 punds not sure about dollars sorry again
but with wicked games and can play old playstation games as well as a DVD player i cant be bothered to say them all over again
anyway
i hope you get whatever you want
im not trying to make you get a PS2
but if you think about it
it might be better to get a PS2 instead
Sega might be working for Sony later in years
or if you can
wait for it than buy it in a couples of years of time to see which one is best
im getting a PS2 rather than a Dreamcast
so i hope you all make a good decision
Ok
Im stopping now
this is getting really long
so see ya
Brig you gonna reply with a longer messgae? :D

Joker you brought a smile to my face when I read that :)

The bottom line, as far as I am concerned, is that just now, right now, today, this second, the best console you can buy from the next-gen is the Dreamcast. I am sure that in 6 months time it will be the PS2, and maybe another year from then, something else. I suggest taking what "may" be released in the future, and what features "may" see the light of day, out of the equation.

The DC in its present form IS dead, and Sega is already making games for the PS2, but what it has already going for it is enough in my opinion to warrant the spending of £100.

Ultimately though, the decision is down to individual preference and what individuals look for in a console.

My one major tip is just don't be brainwashed by all the PR talk and the hype surrounding a console. Buy the machine on its ACTUAL merits, what it can deliver today and the quality of the games that are out right now. Too many products today are sold on false promises so make sure you don't fall for them.

i got a DC and theres no HL out for it yet only Q3 and UT and for the PS2 opposing force will be out for it not the original HL also i have been told that in america you can get ADSL for a dc and a broadband adapter thats goto be the best thing that has happened too DC but it don't look like it'll ever be available in europe seeing as they are not doing any more hardware.

Why shouldn't they do MGS2 for th PC they made a fine conversion of the first after a while and it's not like PC today aren't going too handle it. Quake 3 suks online with the DC while UT rul3s.

Don't you have a games shop that sell second hand PS2 games where you live, if not then i'm really lucky too have one Tecken tag and Oni for (you get the both) £40 instead of £80 which is a good price and Q3 and Unreal for £50.

Hi Rotterdam

As you will hopefully be aware, Half-Life is coming to the DC very soon and I look forward to seeing the improvements that they have made including the new episode Blue Shift. The PS2 IS getting Half-Life as well though, along with some exclusive content, including a cooperative mode and I am eager to find out how that pans out.

I personally was quietly impressed with Quake 3 on the DC and have enjoyed many hours of friendly banter and fairly reliable gaming on the UK DC servers. It showed me that the DC could handle online gaming. Unfortunately it looks as though the online features for UT have been removed in the PAL version, as several gaming sites reported last week. That is still to be officially confirmed though so lets keep our fingers crossed that we can share in the experience that our friends in the US are currently savouring.

And as for the Broadband adapter (which I agree, we probably won't see over here), you mean you aren't satisifed with a 33k Modem? :-)
