Hi gents, I have a new map ready to roll off the factory, it is called Stalingrad2 and it is about the Russian counter offensive in Stalingrad.

Planeset:
red
I-153M62
I-16type18
Il-2_1941_Late
Il-2M_Late
Il-4
La-5
Pe-2series110
Yak-1B - no rockets
Yak-7BPFblue
Bf-109E-7
Bf-109F-4
Bf-109G-2
Bf-110G-2 - no MK108
Ju-87D-3 - no bombs bigger than 1000kg
Ju-88A-4 - no bombs bigger than 1000kgReds are crossing the wolga river with landing craft and are attacking an airfield south of Stalingrad and the Train station in Stalingrad.
Blues have to destroy said landing craft and must cut off the reds' reinforcements approaching from the east.

The maximum distance is ~50 km but this should be manageable.
Therefore is the minimum distance somewhat under 20km.

The time is set to 17:30 and it is a little not so perfect weather with clouds at 800m.

And here the screenshots:

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r79/Anarchrist/stalin4.jpg
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r79/Anarchrist/stalin5.jpg

And the framerate never dropped below 35 as I tested this, which is very good for my old pc!

What does folk say?

Seems interesting. What would the historical date of this be?

Looks really well put together too!

I like the planeset although for the Russians I have three questions. First, you should think about adding the Yak-7B, 1942 model (with the uprated engine) as it was the historical aircraft of the battle...seeing some of the heaviest use. Its also almost as good as the Yak-1B and Yak-9 but with heavier firepower. The I-16 Type 18 is fine but the Type 24 could be used here...given the opposition. Probably not historical. Actually were any I-16s involved with this part of the battle? The I-153 may not see much use... on the other hand maybe it would as a low level attack plane? Just questioning.

This mission takes place roughly one month after the current Stalingrad which plays in October '42, so it is November '42. Still no snow though.
And this map is not meant to be a replacement for the old Stalingrad mission.

You're right, I should switch the I-16 for the Yak7B '42.
The I-153 is meant as a light ground attacker as it can carry some bombs and is very durable.

I find the Yak7 to be not so good though, what will help more firepower when the 109's are only behind me lol.

You can add both the i-153 and the i-16s24 with rockets, they pose little harm and do appear on the theather as ground attackers with. Yak-1b/Yak-7Blate/la-5 is a good fighter mix with real choice.

On the blue side it's a bit early for the FW. The main fighter on the front was the G2 with a good amount of F4s still flying. Hs129 was also present.

Alright I understand the historical context now :)

The Yak-7 is under appreciated...especially the later model which has good performance. Its a weird looking plane so it doesn't get a lot of press but its performance is actually quite good if only a bit difficult to deal with sometimes. I've recently taken more of an interest in it and had quite a bit of fun so I think its a worthy inclusion. The mix of La-5/Yak-1B/Yak-7B should provide a good mix for all players.

I like the I-153 option...definitely keep it.

Something I just thought of....for Blue consider adding the IAR-81a and/or MC.202. Both were present at the Battle of Stalingrad.

I didn't think of them yet, but I think I'll leave them out just to keep the planeset more basic.

I like it!

Cool planeset too! How about adding the LaGG3 (type 35) to the Russian plane set, to deal with the Ju-88? Just a small suggestion... I really like it as it is right now. :)

Nothing new but looks very nice and it'll be pleasure to play it ;).

Thank you very much for the positive feedback gents!
Phoenix, I think the La5 has enough firepower to shoot down a Ju-88, no ned for a 23mm LaGG then. I also would not wish to add the plane because reds have already nine different planes to choose from. The less the better you know. But thanks for your input! :)

you can take down a Ju88 with La-5 if you know where to hit it.

Speaking as a pilot frequently in the Ju-88 ... there isn't any need for the 23mm VYa option on the LaGG-3. A few 20mm rounds into the cockpit area will ruin any Ju-88 pilots day.

I would say that having a LaGG-3 would be fine...but there are so many other options.

Finally got to play this one today. I really like the planeset, and the weather/atmosphere. Had great fun wreaking havoc on the J8 airbase w/ an IL-2M.

I did stutter a lot over the city (WITHOUT a zoomed in view.) My only thought was moving the bases a touch closer together. Server was 2/3rds full, and I didn't see a single enemy aircraft, and perhaps only 1 or 2 friendlies.

could we have this map converted for ukd3? :)

It is interesting that it stutters, are you running the game in perfect mode? How fast is your computer?

I get that on a couple maps now over cities. Frustrating.

Should be fast enough, unless you have some tweaking ideas!

Got a Intel 6750, 4GB RAM, Nvidia 275 card w/ almost 1GB on it!

Granted, Im running w/ the mods, 1900x1200 Perfect mode

I'm thinking one or more of the HS-129 models might be fun here as well, give the Germans a little variety. I don't think we have those planes on any other map.
