I think I must be missing the point of Counter-strike. I was under the impression that the aim of the game, depending on your team preference, is to either blow sh*t up/take hostages, or stop sh*t from being blown up/rescue the hostages.
I would have thought that a good tactic to use in either case is to leave a bloke or two "guarding" the relevant targets.
Apparently in some games, I'm mistaken, the first game of CS I played I tried to do the sensible, found some hostages and sat by them. within seconds I was being being bombarded with cries of "Camper!", not being equipped, nor being able to find a tent, primus stove and torrential rain, I assumed that this was some wierd battle cry. How wrong I was.
We even had a few people turn up on sunday night's game with their "camper!" megaphones at the ready. Fortunately, it being our game and all, we were quite happy to tell them where to go.
Out of personal preference, if you play the camping game, CS becomes much more fun and you have to start approaching it from the Rogue Spear/SWAT3 direction rather than the aimless, boring blasting of Quake and Unreal. I mean, what is the point of taking the sniper rifle if you cant find yourself a nice quiet little cranny somehwere in order to pick off the bad/good guys? Obviously in a sparsely populated game it makes little sense to play too cautiously, but surely, as with Delta-Force, there is sufficient diversity of roles to accomodate both sets of players? Those who want to run around can, those who want to hide and pick people off can do the same.
