Like to claim QV-J Spitfire if possible

Was my aircraft on the last run...........nostalgia and all that

    EDIT:

Osprey_EAF92 would like to sign up for the QV-J Spitfire; I'm cool with that - let's him fly with the rest of his squad mates so may QV-J bring you luck mate

Can I be placed in the first flight of Spits instead? (WHITE FLIGHT) Cheers.

I'd like a Spit please. If the teams need to be balanced I'll shift to German.

    Cheers.

Trog I've put you in a Spit so far. But if teams will need evening I will move you to the BLUE, is that ok?

Shifter - you got it, white flight for you.

Reporting for duty to bust up the lead bomber's butt (put me in a Fw-190 please, THOR )

Edit: Can we decrease number of escorts a bit? 6 x Bf-109 and 6 x Fw-190 won't even be able to hold their own against 12 x Spit IXc, let alone intercepting the bombers...

During the early bomber offensives whole Wings of A/C were sent over as escorts, sometimes to protect as little as three bombers, so.................

So, you can't force people to play a computer game against overwhelming odds (unlike real war), in a game you have to balance the odds or rely on AI to fill the slots up..

I can't believe I hear the same excuse over and over again, it's just impossible to reenact the whole thing flawlessly, why not try to have some fun instead?

Thought part of the fun in Dark Side A/C would be to attempt to either break through the fighter screen or out manouver them.
In missions with uneven odds I always find the out foxing a great challenge and very rewarding when you get results.
Remember, you don't need to destroy all the bombers, just some, as in real life any action you return from is a 'win'

Personally, I never minded playing against uneven odds (as long as it's doable and fun to play) and I completely share your thoughts on "challange", however I also believe that the unexpected number of empty blue slots is due to the hunch of getting massacred instantly. I hope that I'm wrong and the roster fills up soon...

Also, I don't expect to shoot all the bombers down, it's nearly impossible with our bomber gents even w/o escort. I just want to be able to make them sweat a little bit, you know. It shouldn't be like thier practice sessions, that would disappoint both sides IMHO..

It was a bit of a bloodbath last time we ran this mission with the older version of the spits.
I think we had one or two bombers land on the first run.

I do believe you Letum, I can not however put forward ideas on an event I did not participate in.

Do not get me wrong though, as long as those slots to fill up I'm a happy man, it's been quite a while since I last played IL2. Keep my rustiness in mind, I'm just having a hard time convincing myself that I could have a second chance to aim at a bomber under these conditions..

In case anyone is interested, here is the mission report from last time:

    SERVER: UK Dedicated 3
    Date: 05.07.2008.
    Leader: Thor
    Deputy: Magnum
    Number of bombers: 12
    RTBs: 2
    Losses: 10
    Enemy figter claims: 2
Target status: Inspite of cloudcover target was bombed succesfully. Heavy damage to the industrial area around Falaise.

    SHORT DESCRPITION:

Takeoff was done individualy, we formed up in the air over airbase. Formation was tight and by the book - Late war BOX.
I led the formation while Letum and Blasny led other two elements.
Met with little friends while crossing the Channel. 9 Spitfires joined to escort us.
Escorts reported bandits behind us and went to engage.
Proceeded to PRIMARY target at Falaise without any bandits engaging us.
Upon closing on the target, we were spotted by a lone 190 who radioed our position in.
Encountered heavy flak near target. They got altitude of BLUE flight - Letum's and Paulie's planes were reported smoking badly.
Target apeared between clouds and we bombed it from 4000m/13120ft, spot on. All bombs found their mark.
Just as the last bomb left the plane all Hell broke loose, 190s and 109s started diving on the formaiton, in pairs and one after another. Few escorts that were with us at that moment did their best to stop them but there was not much they could do.
Incisor and Magnum were first to go down. Both crews were seen bailing out.
I lost an engine and was forced to leave the formation. Steveiy, my no.3 took some hits as well so Guse took over.
In the furball Blasny claimed a 109.
190 collided with Tim and was forced to bail. Several chutes seen.
Letum left the formation due engine problems.
Formation now broke in two, one section being led by Blasny and one by Monguse.
All damaged bombers were instructed to go to nearest base - fighter airfield.
Shortly after I left the formation I was engaged by single 190. Top turret gunner and nose gunner were killed on his first pass. Some Spitfires saw me and kept 190 busy while I managed to dive in the cloud for cover.
Then a lone 109 engaged me but he was already damaged so my gunners managed to finish him. I claim one 109 destroyed.
Bely landed 20 clicks of shore.
I consider myself lucky. Most of the remaining guys were picked by 190s on their way back.
Paladin - last seen bailing out over enemy territory.
Paulie - exploded while trying to crashland. All hands lost.
Steveiy - shot down by 190. Crew bailed.
Letum - shot down by 190 while crossing the Channel. Several casualities.
Guse - forced to land on a road next to friendly lines.
Only three guys managed to reach base again.
Fodder bely landed 500m near the base in a river.
Blasny brought his plane back and bely landed inspite having one vertical stabilizer totaly shot off. Unfortunately his plane was damaged beyond repair.
Tonar's gear collapsed on landing - all hands lost.

    Not so quickly Finn...

Roster has been up for two days only, and over half of the slots have been filled.

Where are Algore, Levola, Bladebender, Chatta and the rest who flew 190s so well on the last mission?

If we don't get enough pilots in next two days I suggest we advertise the mission on WarClouds forum. We should get some blue pilots outa there.

And if we don't get enough pilots after that I'll switch you over to a Focke.

You don't need to worry at all bokatar. G2 and A5 are much faster than these Spits escorting us. Last time we had almost 8 Spitfires escorting and it felt like we had no escort at all. 10 bombers went down as you can see in the DBS mission report Letum copied from our forums.
