    I think you just verify the integrity of game files through steam to restore it.

    Thanks for the info.

    Sorry to be obtuse but am I right to assume that this is with the 'work around' files and altered Confini files in place? I assume that Steam will point itelf to the correct file to start the game once it restores the files.

    I suppose if all else fails all I do is uninstall the game and reinstall from my disc and Steam does the rest.

    Update

    From Banana Republic...

    We are working our butts off trying to get a beta patch done for right now, which may still happen - stay tuned. In the worst case, this might be Monday. However we'll do everything we can to roll it out in 3-4 hours.

    Stuff in this patch:

    1. Major changes to online code, statistics, stability, etc.

    2. More performance increases, including streamlined block loading that lets you switch between planes over England and France instantaneously (then watch the landscape underneath load in).

    3. Force feedback.

    4. True full screen, VSync.

    5. Various changes in aircraft animations, FM, etc - a huge list.

    6. Lots of changes to ground object AI and DM - another huge list.

    7. New IL-2 style QMB missions.

    We've also been working on SLI and Crossfire support. Crossfire is probably a couple of weeks out, while SLI is most likely going to wait for the next driver release from NVidia. By the way, SLI/Crossfire hardware should no longer cause slow-downs as of the last patch, so this shouldn't be as huge a let-down as it could have been.

    Back to the trenches for me! Stay tuned!

    (sorry Russian fans, I really wanted to simul-post this in Russian and English as usual but I'm kind of running around with my hair on fire)

    All good news but you have to wonder why, after being in development for something like six years, this is necessary. It looks like we are all Beta testers now.

    The latest patch has been released for download in beta form and a lot of players across at the 1c forum are reporting having problems with it. I suspect that we won't be seeing a Steam auto download until later next week. Luthier did say Monday if the patch couldn't be released yesterday but that was before these problems surfaced.

    I have found the latest patch has reduced my frames for some reason... does not feel quite as smooth as it was... i guess it was another rush job to get something out for easter.

    Latest Update for next patch posted at 1C..

    Hi everyone,

    Quick update from up here on the flight deck.

    We never in a million years thought that this darn full screen mode could give us so much trouble. It's the last thing standing between us and fluid framerate, and what seemed like a simple feature is taking forever to make.

    I've said with the previous beta patch that we'd be taking some time off, but because of this patch we've all postponed our holidays and are working feverishly to get the patch completed.

    Today was another day when in the morning we thought we were almost there, but as dusk approaches the realization sets in. We need another day.

    The good news is that in the meantime we ironed out both Crossfire and SLI support and generally did a lot of other good things to the game. Rest assured that this one persistent full screen issue is not preventing us from improving the game in other ways and proceeding with the plan.

    As we approach event horizon with the patch, we may or may not decide to release it as yet another beta version. SLI and Crossfire support are kind a big thing. We'll think it over some more.

    I'll be back again tomorrow with a progress report, and hopefully with a patch!

    Postponed their holidays to sort the patch out! It looks like they are doing everything possible to make up for the poor start this game had.

    Yes after all they only spent 6 years making it before dumping it on an unsuspecting community with promises it would work on low/mid range PC`s (which I believe was nothing short of a lie), bravo to 1c.

    All this "pushing the weekends" and cutting out holidays smells like bull to me. As it has been said numerous times they had their six years and they didn't pull their act together.

    Now that the deadlines and US release are getting closer everyone seems to be so busy with work.

    If I'm not speaking entirely out of my bum it means the game finally recognizes itself as a 3D application and doesn't underclock the GPU and works the CPU cores properly.

    Or am I wrong?

    I think has got the basics right, as he says it makes the GPU recognise the program as 3D, making the gpu clocks auto set to max, thats my experience from RoF anyway.

    Hi everyone,

    It's here.

    Since, as we were struggling with the full screen mode, we managed to finalize our Crossfire and SLI support we decided to bunch it together and release a combined beta patch. All the features of the previous patch are considered final, but new features are not.

    Please find the patch readme below.

    ************************************************** **************************************

    The latest patch continues to improve on overall performance and multiplayer
    functionality, as well as adding new gameplay options such as new Quick missions.

    The current patch contains the following changes:

    GRAPHICS
    * Added beta Crossfire support.
    * Added True full-screen mode. The game was previously playing in a stretched
    window; that mode is also still available. Switch between windowed, pseudo
    (stretched window) and true full screen modes in the Video Options.
    NOTE: If you are running an ATI video card and you notice reduced performance in
    True full-screen mode, please switch back to Pseudo to improve framerate;
    * Greatly improved performance over large cities, especially with Buildings Detail
    settings set below Very High. NOTE: if you do experience stutters over cities
    with Building Detail set to Very High, please consider turning it down. Even
    setting this to Medium will have almost no noticeable effect on visual quality
    of the game;
    * Introduced background landscape loading that slowly creates landscape under the
    player's camera. You can now quickly switch from England to France with
    virtually no slow-downs. Performance gain is most noticeable on CPUs with four+
    cores.

    AIRCRAFT VISUALS
    * Reduced head motion effects, especially in terms of G;
    * Increased draw distance for markings and decals on aircraft;
    * Fixed minor Bf. 110 damage and animation issues;
    * Fixed weird movement of Bf. 110's magnetic compass dial;
    * Fixed Bf. 109 gunsight misalignment;
    * Fixed a hole under a damaged engine cowling in the Defiant;
    * Fixed visual issues with Defiant's tail damage;
    * Put a mirror onto the Hurricane;
    * Fixed Hurricane's tail damage visuals;
    * Updated Hurricane radiator animation;
    * Ju. 88 gear now open properly;
    * Fixed minor Ju. 88 damage visuals;
    * Asked the Ju. 88's pilot to keep his feet on the pedals;
    * Made minor changes to cockpits of G. 50 and Ju. 88;
    * Fixed a visual issue with the Spitfire's antenna;
    * Fixed minor Sunderland damage visuals;
    * Made minor modifications to Spitfire cockpit;
    * Fixed minor damage visuals in the Ju. 88;
    * Fixed minor damage visuals in the Hurricane;
    * Fixed minor damage visuals in the Ju. 87;
    * Made various modifications to SFX.

    AIRCRAFT PHYSICS & A.I
    * Carburetter backfire effects now require a certain amount of gasoline mix to be
    contained in the intake to actually do some damage;
    * Aircraft fires now burn crew members;
    * Changed magnetic inclination to 10.11 degree west to reflect actual 1940 values;
    * Removed ignition control handle from the Bf. 109;
    * Defiant's gunner now opens both hatches when bailing out;
    * He. 111 top gunner's machine gun won't dip into the fuselage any more;
    * Made all fuel pressure gauges a single-tube type;
    * Made turret mounts unlock faster;
    * Removed the effect that made Bf. 109's motor shake at higher altitudes;
    * Added aircraft buffeting to wing icing effects;
    * Increased wing lift loss during wing icing;
    * Fixed the issue where non-symmetrical damage to landing flap mechanics resulted in
    symmetrical air flow over both wings.

    GENERAL
    * Added Force Feedback support to the game;
    * Added six new Il-2-style Quick missions. See them at the bottom of the list -
    three each for German and British attacks of Airfields, Bridges and Transport
    Columns. Fly in bombers, escort and intercept and scramble fighters, with
    missions of up to 128 aircraft!
    * Made sure plane selection and other user modifications stick in Quick Mission
    Builder when returning to the interface after flying a custom mission;
    * Restored throttle-up smoke from non-player planes;
    * Fixed some pilot animations;
    * Updated some briefings and other in-game texts;
    * Improved the overall look of the 2D Map;
    * Added a Scale control to the 2D Map (imperial for British, metric for Germans
    and Italians);
    * Added city and airfield labels to the 2D Map;
    * Added larger 64x64 icons to the 2D Map;
    * Improved the order in which icons are drawn on the 2D Map when on top of each
    other;
    * Improved the look of the Battle Area grid;
    * Fixed icon size selection options;
    * Fixed issues encountered when destroying certain types of railway cars;
    * Improved ground crewmembers in online games;
    * Made sure Bobbin Cable can be selected in the FMB without issues;
    * Fixed an issue encountered when trying to place crew into an object without a
    regiment;
    * Fixed an issue with launching night missions with search lights on dedicated
    servers;
    * Fixed an issue with launching missions with certain ships on dedicated servers;
    * Fixed an issue with launching missions with armor when sound is disabled.
    * Fixed an issue with planes are once again exploding when starting in
    hangars.

    MULTIPLAYER
    * Improved server and client stablity and performance;
    * Improved statistics;
    * Fixed phantom crewmembers occasionally appearing in place of dropped planes;
    * Made sure airborne planes are created with sufficient airspeed in online games
    (born speed now tied to the plane's top speed);
    * Made sure all players see the same time of day in an online server.

    CHANNEL MAP
    * Made Dungeness Point look more like the real-life location;
    * Added the town of Horsham to the map;
    * Added Westhampnett airfield to the map.
